Sliced is back for another helping

Samson Kayo

Thursday 23rd January

UKTV announces today that Sliced is returning to comedy channel Dave for another series (6x40'). Sliced is co-written by its BAFTA-nominated star Samson Kayo (Famalam), who plays Joshua, a down-on-his-luck pizza delivery driver in south London.

Samson Kayo said,

We go again! I'm so excited to be back on Dave with series two. Last series was just a taster, now it's go time! I'm looking forward to creating some more explosively funny and authentic stories with this amazingly talented team.

The first series of three episodes reached over 1.7million viewers. Sliced is written by Samson Kayo and Phil Bowker (PhoneShop) and produced by Lovely Electricity. It is commissioned for UKTV by Pete Thornton, head of scripted, and ordered by Richard Watsham, director of commissioning, Luke Hales, Dave channel director, and Steve North, genre general manager, comedy and entertainment.

Pete Thornton said,

Samson and Phil make for a formidable creative duo, the Batman and Robin of the writer/performer/just writer comedy world, and they are supported by an extraordinary cast of established talent and rising stars. This is a show that really hits the sweet spot for Dave, we love it with a passion and we can't wait to make more.

Luke Hales said

Launching Sliced was one of our favourite moments of 2019, we loved working with the brilliant and talented Samson Kayo and Phil Bowker. The fact that the show is loosely based on Samson's upbringing in South London makes it really modern, authentic and relatable, and the fact that it is co-written by him means it is guaranteed to be very, very funny. Dave is committed to UK comedy and in recent years has established itself as the best place to come in the UK for fresh, modern and brilliantly funny comedy, Sliced speaks loudly to this ambition.

Phil Bowker said,

Lovely Electricity are incredibly proud and excited to be back in business with Dave and UKTV. We had such fun making the first series of Sliced and the commissioning of this new six-parter goes to underline UKTV's commitment to and the showcasing of the best new comedy talent that the UK has to offer.

Sliced will air on Dave later this year.

Praise for Sliced series one:

  • "Sweary, sweet and genuinely very funny" - The Sun TV Mag
  • "Charming" - The Guardian
  • "Scabrous, filthy, but funny" - Daily Mail
  • "Officially our new favourite show ... Dave's best sitcom yet" - Digital Spy
  • "Extremely relatable" - Daily Mirror

Ever since it was knee high to a TV remote, Dave had an idea. It wanted to be the first place viewers would come for brand-new, award-winning entertainment from the biggest and brightest stars and production companies in the UK. And in the years since, it has launched some of the most exciting and best-loved titles on TV.

There are names like Hypothetical, Jon Richardson: Ultimate Worrier and Comedians Giving Lectures. And of course there's Dave Gorman, whose inquisitive mind is returning to the channel for Terms and Conditions Apply. It's not just in front of the camera where the comic genius lies either, with a wealth of scripted treasure such as Sliced, Porters and the globally popular Red Dwarf.

Dave's not content just to make you laugh and share gags with your mates though. Expedition with Steve Backshall and Hurricane Man are showing you regions and aspects of the earth never before seen on TV. Red Bull Soapbox continues to delight with its boundless capacity for invention. And stepping away from the TV entirely, Dave's partnered with CALM to launch the "Be The Mate You'd Want" campaign and the "Conversations Against Living Miserably" podcast.

Reaching 20million viewers a month, Dave's come a long way, but it's only just getting warmed up.
